On Notice

Will J Rations let me know when each issue is released? This has to be the best mag I’ve seen when it comes to Jeep. GREAT!!!!

Put Me Down

Well, I am impressed! The first issue really is a collector’s edition! Great photography, well written and printed on paper that looks and feels like quality—the same quality as the premiere issue of J Rations. You can put me down for more issues.

All Jeeps?

I just want to say what a great job you guys have done on the first issue of J Rations. As a current owner of an ’05 Grand Cherokee and a former owner of a Cherokee, Liberty and a Wrangler, I ask you to please not forget us non-Wrangler owners. Please do not go down the same sophomoric path that [another] magazine has taken in regard to any Jeep but a CJ or Wrangler. Please continue to do stories on historic Jeeps, new Jeeps, places to ride (hardcore and places that a stock jeep could handle) and modifications to all Jeep products.

I currently subscribe to another Jeep publication which states on the cover that it’s “All Jeeps.” I own a Cherokee (Liberty) 2.8 CRD Sport which this so-called “All Jeeps” mag says is not a proper Jeep and subsequently will not publish any articles about the Liberty—they say they are a specialist mag.

I am about to cancel my subscrption, and I’m looking for a magazine that does include the Liberty as a Jeep and a mag that includes all Jeeps whether they are serious off-roaders or not. Please tell me if your magazine is what I’m looking for, or are you another specialist mag?

With six decades of continuous production, the Jeep brand has seen many off-shoots from the short wheelbase model that started it all. Now with the Jeep line comprised of the Wrangler, Liberty, Grand Cherokee, Commander and the upcoming Compass, there is more Jeep territority for a publication like J Rations to cover than ever before.

J Rations will service the entire Jeep community, however, the bulk of the models and model years we cover will be representative of the hobby and the marketplace as a whole. That means you will see more editorial aimed at the CJ and Wrangler crowds, but don’t take that to mean we will ignore those who drive Cherokees, J-10s, Libertys, Grand Cherokees and the other members of the Jeep fraternity. We’ll get to them as time, space and new opportunities present themselves.

In between, we hope the rest of our editorial presentation will satisfy your needs even if your model Jeep may not be represented in a particular issue. And that’s all the more reason for you to stick with us for the ride! —Ed.

Relate To This

You have outdone yourselves—a Jeep magazine that is for the everyday jeeper. Jeepers who read J Rations will feel like they can relate to the articles and rigs. The CD is filled with so much info. Anyone new to Jeeping can learn so much about the adventures of off-roading. Lead us on.

Out Of The Rut

Got my copy last week, love it! I can’t say enough great things about it. Nice layout, great photos, nice tech articles. I would love to see more four-wheel adventures videos. It’s nice to see some adventures that don’t involve only mud and flatlands.

New & Approved

From what I’ve seen of the J Rations magazine, CD and Web site so far, all I can say is “Bravo!” I hope to see you succeed and continue to offer the types of products, stories and writing we’ve seen so far.

Gimme Answers

This project looks very interesting. Here’s what I am wondering...

How often will the magazine be published? Will subsequent issues include a CD and Web content as well? Is $10.95 the annual subscription rate (how many issues?) or the price per issue?

You know, there’s a ton a free content already available on this subject. Your advantage is pulling it all together in one rich, multimedia experience.

Thanks, Joe, for your inquiries. Current plans are to publish J Rations quarterly in the first year and to include a CD-ROM with additional Web content in every issue. We aren’t offering subscriptions—yet. We’ve reduced the single copy price to $8.95 with free shipping to make it more affordable to more people.

You are right about the amount of free information available across the Web. Our mission has been to bring it all together in one convenient and exciting experience. —Ed.

Shooting Stars

I got my copy of J Rations this week, and have poured over every word of it, including the CD. I gotta tell ya.....I LOVE IT!!!!!! The writing is very good and the photography is better than what I’ve seen in other mag rags. The CD was awesome, very easy to navigate. The still shots and videos of the trail rides are awesome. I learned a lot from the history section, too. That was extremely well done and very, very informative. The music was incredible, very well matched to the content of the CD. All in all, I’d have to give you an 11 on a scale of 1-10. Standard Issue 1 is definitely worth the money.

It’s so refreshing to see a new magazine shoot out of the starting blocks the way this one has. I’m tired of the same old high-tech ramblings geared towards the monetarily blessed minority at the upper end of the off-road world. There are far more of us basic Jeepers in the world, and finding anything worthwhile that fits our style or budget is next to impossible. For all of us “little guys,” a hearty THANK YOU!

Adrenaline Rush!

I just received my copy today! I am very excited, and all I can say is WOW! I think you have compiled a little bit for every jeeper and done it in a nice package! Great job to your entire staff!!

Guilty As Charged

First off I would like to say thanks for the two nights of short sleep. Just got my magazine and spent the last two nights going over it and the CD. I don't know which one is worse. The magazine was able to keep me up till 1 in the morning...the CD only made it till 12. I had to struggle for the last two days with only 3-4 hours of sleep. You people at J Rations should be ashamed of yourselves. If I wasn't so tired, I would call my lawyer and file suit.

Lasting Impressions

Received my copy of the first edition today and am very impressed. [You] have done an outstanding job with both the magazine and the companion CD. I encourage anyone who is a Jeep enthusiast to check this one out.

Happy Holiday (Distraction)

Having had a couple of days to read through my issue of J Rations, I must say I am excited to have a “real” Jeep magazine again. Well done! I enjoyed a popular magazine for years, but over time it seemed to lose touch with the average Jeeper and also got...well, let’s just go with...not so family-friendly. J Rations is full of good articles that interest me, great photography and is appropriate for me to sit and read with my 9-year-old son. It’s about time you showed up…where ya been?

As for the interactive CD, I haven’t gone through it completely, but the music is great and it appears to have quite a bit of content to it. It should keep me occupied while my in-laws visit over the Christmas holiday.

Thanks for bringing quality and decency back into a Jeep mag.

Back To The Basics

Congrats on the mag. So far (and I just received my first), I like it. Enough of the mags for those where money is no object to build a do-everything Jeep. Keep it simple with tech articles. Heck, I even like the “Adventurer’s Almanac” and “Wilderness Digs” articles. Thanks again for a great magazine.
